Psychology of Physical Education and Sport
Nikos Comoutos is a Professor at the Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Thessaly in Greece. He graduated from University of Thessaly in 2002. In 2003 he received his MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of Wales, Bangor, supported by the Onassis Foundation, and his Ph.D in physical education and quality of life at the Democritus University of Thrace and University of Thessaly supported by the “State Scholarships Foundation”. In 2009-2013 received his post-doc participating in a collaborative research grant (PAPA project) funded by the EU Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme (Health) in Physical Activity (PAPA) and in 2013-2015 a post-doc participating in a national project called THALIS aiming in smoking and alcohol cessation. His research focuses on performance enhancement in sport and physical education but also change unhealthy behaviors such as smoking and drinking through exercise. He has published numerous articles and serves as a referee in established sport psychology journals and he is a member of international societies (FEPSAC, ISSP, ASP), president of the Hellenic Society of Sport Psychology, editor of the Hellenic Journal of Sport Psychology and editorial assistant of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology.
